Natural alternative to lawns

A green lawn needs up to 35 liters of water per square meter per week. For an average lawn area of 100 square meters, that’s 3500 liters per week. Watering is often necessary for 20 weeks or more a year. This means that the lawn consumes up to 70,000 liters of water per year.

If you have a lawn in your garden, you often capitulate and accept a gray-green to yellow lawn that is increasingly interspersed with wild herbs and moss.

Our sustainable concept is to transform the lawn into a fragrant “thyme lawn”. In preparation, the soil needs to be worked and leached so that it is loose and well-drained. To do this, sand and gravel are worked into loamy and compacted soil. Very sandy soil is given an addition of well-seasoned compost. We use individual plants to create a nice structure. Seeding is a cheaper alternative. With plants of different species, growth heights and flowering colors, the thyme lawn becomes even more beautiful. In the 3rd year, the area is closed and requires almost no watering.
